Steph joined Davidson & Robertson in February 2018 to work in the Berwick office as a graduate surveyor. She is currently studying to complete her honours degree in Rural Business Management at SRUC in Edinburgh. She hopes to sit her APC examinations in the future in order to become a qualified chartered surveyor.

Steph was brought up on her family farm in the Scottish Borders where her love for the countryside was initiated. She enjoys spending free time riding her horse, walking her Italian Spinone and attending young farmers.

Having been brought up on the family farm and having completed his professional training in Dumfries and Galloway, Ian join Davidson & Robertson in August 2015.  Ian is a Chartered Surveyor (MRICS), RICS Registered Valuer and a Fellow of the Central Association for Agricultural Valuers (FAAV) having won the President’s Prize for the highest mark in the Scottish CAAV exam in 2013.

Ian is based in our Edinburgh Office and is experienced in a range of Private Client work including:

Derek started working for Davidson & Robertson in 2009 as a consultant whilst continuing as Managing Partner of his family’s beef and sheep farm in Wigtownshire.  In addition to hands-on farming experience, he has several academic qualifications including: a BSc(Hons) in Rural Land Management from the Royal Agricultural College, a Masters of Business Administration from Cranfield University and a Post Graduate Diploma with Distinction in Organic Farming from the Scottish Agricultural College.  Derek gained Fellowship of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV) in 2014 receiving the President’s Prize for the highest mark in the Scottish CAAV exam.  He is a member of SAAVA and Vice-chairman of the South West Agricultural Valuers Association.

Derek now heads up our Castle Douglas office and carries out a wide variety of corporate and private client work throughout south west Scotland and beyond.  His key areas of work are:

Rhona hails from an agricultural background, being brought up on a Dairy/Mixed Farm in Midlothian.  Now Rhona is a partner in the family business in Carnoustie, a cereals enterprise extending to 600 acres.

Rhona commenced employment with Davidson & Robertson in 1999 as a Trainee Surveyor after completing a Degree in Land Economy at Aberdeen University.  Working out of the Edinburgh Office, Rhona successfully completed her training and gained the MRICS qualification in 2001. 

Moving to Carnoustie in 2002, Rhona left the firm for a short while where she worked as a Telecommunications Acquisition Consultant.  In 2003, Rhona returned to the firm working as a Consultant based from her home in Carnoustie.  In the period 2003 to 2010, Rhona undertook work in a variety of projects but with a particular emphasis on resolving complex and historic compensation claims. 

In the period January 2011 to May 2012, Rhona worked for Scottish and Southern Energy in their Estates department where she undertook a range of Estate work including Management, Injurious Affection claim negotiations on the new Beauly Denny Power line, and telecommunication work for SSE Telecoms.

In June 2012, Rhona returned to Davidson & Robertson Rural where she heads up the new Forfar office.  Rhona is able to provide a range of professional services from her base in Forfar including Valuations, Sales, Compulsory Purchase and Compensation and Property Management.

Having grown up on a dairy, beef and sheep farm in Dumfriesshire, Kathleen has always had a keen interest in the family farm. This interest led Kathleen to study at the Scottish Agricultural College in Edinburgh, graduating with an honours degree in Rural Resource Management. Kathleen went on to study Land Economy and Rural Surveying at Aberdeen University, graduating in November 2010.

Kathleen joined the firm in August 2010, having since passed her Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) to become a Chartered Surveyor.  Based in our Forfar office, Kathleen is a member of the Scottish Agricultural Arbiters’ & Valuers’ Association (SAAVA) and is also a RICS Registered Valuer.

Alasdair was brought up in and around farms in North East Fife and is qualified in Rural Resource Management and BTech Degree in Agriculture.  Alasdair worked for SGRPID as an agricultural officer for 10 years in Inverurie, before working for a Farmer Based Co-Operative, Farm Consulting services Ltd, providing primarily financial business planning advice to its members.  From 2012-2018, Alasdair worked for the LEADER local action groups in Aberdeenshire promoting funding and assisting communities address there development issues.  Davidson and Robertson was an excellent opportunity to provide support and work with the Agricultural and Rural Sectors.

Lynn was brought up on a dairy/mixed farm in West Lothian.  Now Lynn supports her husband in the family farming business at Broxburn, which owns and/or contract farms lands extending to 1,600 acres of arable crops, 400 acres of grazing and a substantial beef unit.

Lynn commenced employment with Robertson Rural in May 2012 working closely with Kenneth Robertson and assisting with several aspects of rural land agency work, including telecoms negotiations and compensation claims.

The merger between Davidson & Robertson at The Quarter on 1st June 2013 means Lynn, who will continue to be based in Bathgate, now forms part of the wider team.

Martin joined Davidson & Robertson in 1991 as an Assistant Surveyor and has progressed through the ranks becoming a Partner in 2000 and, following incorporation in 2005, the Managing Director today.

Martin oversees the Utility and CPO Team, undertakes complex and specialist negotiations, as well as planning and development work throughout central Scotland.  He is a trained Arbiter.

He is a past President of the Scottish Agricultural Arbiters' and Valuers' Association (SAAVA), an examiner for the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV) and sits on the executive committee of the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland.  He is a member of the Agricultural Law Association, and the Compulsory Purchase Association.

After leaving college Anne  joined FMC (Perth) and worked in the meat industry for a year, during this time her family bought and moved to a Dairy farm in Ayrshire where she worked for a year until she moved into Agricultural Sales in 1985 and worked for 3 large National companies until she left to have her family in 1994. Anne joined Davidson & Robertson as an Agricultural Liaison Officer for the Scotland to Northern Ireland Gas Pipeline in January 2014 and works out of the Castle Douglas office one day per week doing Debt Recovery Work.

Growing up near Edinburgh and originally graduating from St Andrews with a MSc and a PhD in Biophotonics she has since qualified as an Actuary and worked in finance for a number of years. Recently, Hannah has changed her career path to follow in the footsteps of her father and work in the Rural Sector. She is relishing the fresh challenge, including studying for a Masters in Rural Estate and Land Management at Harper Adams University.  On completion of the Harper Adams course, Hannah will be sitting her RICS APC and CAAV examinations.  In her spare time, Hannah enjoys falconry and hunting and also used to have a small hobby flock of sheep.

After graduating from Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester,  Andrew undertook his training in estate management in Dumfries and Edinburgh before moving south to Derbyshire where he was involved in property management, valuation, planning and sales as well as auctioneering.

Andrew moved back to Scotland in 2001 and has been with Davidson & Robertson since 2002.  Now a Consultant with the firm, Andrew has extensive experience of utility and compensation issues having acted both for and against utility companies over the last ten years and his specialties are:

  • Utility work including compensation, pre-entry agreement and re-instatement
  • Compulsory purchase, currently involved in road and rail schemes
  • Estate and property management
  • Valuation (RICS Registered Valuer)

Niall has previously been chairman of RICS matrics for Scotland, representing the younger members of the RICS. He is currently a committee member of the South of Scotland and Borders Valuers Association. Niall recently went back to the books and gained fellowship of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers at their inaugural Scottish sitting of the exam in November 2012. Niall is an RICS Registered Valuer.

Having worked full-time on the family farm, John joined Oliver & Son Ltd as a trainee auctioneer on his 21st birthday. In the same year he became a member of The Institute of Auctioneers & Appraisers in Scotland where he has been a council member for 20 years and President for the years between 1998 and 2000. He has also been a member of SAAVA since 1983.

John has been extensively involved in valuations, compensation work and rural property sales throughout his career and was acting as a sole trader for 15 years before joining forces with Davidson & Robertson and setting up the Castle Douglas office in 2010.

Fiona was brought up on a beef and arable farm near Bo’ness, which her family have been farming since 1910, finishing approximately 200 beef cattle every year and growing a mixture of cereals.

Since leaving school, Fiona has been heavily involved in administration mainly in the Oil & gas industry in and around Grangemouth, whilst still taking an interest on things in the farming sector, attending many of the local agricultural shows and livestock markets on sale days.

Fiona was a keen member of Linlithgow & District Junior Agricultural Club, where she held various roles from committee member to Chair.  Recently, Fiona has taken up curling and has become secretary of Abercorn Curling Club.

Charles joined the firm in 1999 as an Associate Partner and progressed to Partner in 2002. In January 2005 he became one of three Directors of Davidson & Robertson.

Charles heads up the Estate Management and Renewable Energy Departments. Other specialisms include:-

  • Access negotiations
  • Development Options and promotion agreements
  • Geographical Information Systems and computer mapping
  • ISO 9001:2000 and quality systems

On the estate management side Charles has particular expertise on advising on development opportunities and has been involved in a number of land releases for development. Charles also has a long history of advising clients on large scale renewable projects and has acted for both landowners and developers on over 800MW of consented capacity. Projects have included advising clients on Black Law and Clyde Wind Farms. Charles was the principal land agent acting for Scottish Water on the £100m+ Katrine Water Project.

Charles is a member of Scottish Agricultural Arbiters & Valuers Association. Charles is also a surveyor member of the Scottish Government appointed Private Rented Housing Panel and Home Owners Panel.

Tim is a Chartered Surveyor and RICS Registered Valuer who graduated from Aberdeen University with a Masters in Land Economy (MLE) in 2011 having previously completed an Honours degree in Zoology at the same institution.   Tim passed the RICS Accreditation of Professional Competence (APC) in April 2014 whilst working for Smiths Gore in Carlisle, where he gained experience in valuing, selling, leasing and the management of rural property.  Having become a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Tim moved back north of the Border where he has focussed on valuation, purchase & sale and residential development work.  Tim joined the firm in December 2017 and is hoping gain fellowship to the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV).

In her role as Finance Manager, Alison is responsible for the day to day accounting and financial management, and is responsible for budgeting and reporting on financial performance to Branch Managers and Directors.

Alison has recently become an Associate of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers.

Andrew joined Davidson & Robertson in March 2018 as an Assistant Forester to help expand and manage the growing forestry portfolio. He has completed a BSc in Forest Management in Inverness this year along with experience working for a private forestry management company . Having been brought up on a family farm in East Lothian and working in agriculture prior to professional forestry training, gives him a valuable appreciation of the rural economy and he continues to be involved in the family farming business.

Robert is a first generation dairy farmer running a 220 cow dairy in combination with arable and beef fattening enterprises on a 550 acre mixed farm in South Ayrshire.

Past Vice Chairman of the UK wide Farmer owned business First Milk, and a past Chairman of the Scottish NFU national milk committee.

Robert is passionate  about the opportunities that exist  for the Scottish rural economy over  the next few years driven by the changing world landscape on both food and energy supply.

To that end he holds a range of positions with innovative businesses worldwide in the food and energy sectors.

Lorna grew up on the family hill sheep and cattle farm in the Angus Glens.  She went onto study at SAC Aberdeen graduating with a BA(Hons) Rural Business Management with Agriculture and Food in 2008.  Lorna's career started at Farmlay Eggs Ltd as Producer and Technical Liaison in 2008.  In 2011 she moved to Mackies at Taypack to be Technical Manager for the crisp production site near Aberdeen.  Lorna then joined Buchan Agricultural Consultants Ltd in 2012.

Ruth was brought up in Nottinghamshire and moved to stay on an Aberdeenshire farm in 2005.

She has been closely involved with arable farm management and has a keen interest with sheep, keeping her small flock on her own small holding. 

Ruth started working with us in March 2008, being responsible for the contract tree and hedge planting and fencing teams employed by clients to implement the many Environmental schemes being managed by the D&R Maud Office. She has co-ordinated many of the various schemes for clients including stock management and Rural Priorities capital and management applications.

In Autumn 2017 Sam became a MRICS Chartered Surveyor and RICS Registered Valuer.

Gervase is a farmer’s son from Lancashire who has lived and worked in the North East for over 20 years. After graduating from the University of Aberdeen with an honours degree in geology he worked in the oil industry for over six years before returning to university to study Land Economy, graduating the Masters course with commendation in 2005.
 
Gervase is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and a RICS Registered Valuer.  A former chairman of the Aberdeen and North East Region of the RICS, he started with Davidson & Robertson Rural in September 2016 and heads up the Maud office. Gervase provides a range of professional services including commercial and rural agency and valuation work as well as the provision of compulsory purchase advice, landlord and tenant advice and telecommunications and rural estate management.
