We are seeking a Senior Surveyor/Associate with an interest in Property Management based on our client site / Castle Douglas office

Department: Property & Forestry

Reporting to: Director, Head of Property & Forestry

Main purpose: Working with director to deliver an outstanding service to clients while supervising and developing more junior surveyors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with a team with a core of retained estate management work and associated consultancy.
  • Day to day estate management and will involve strategic thinking as well as taking projects on rural estates from inception through to completion. The management work will include the provision of advice in respect of landlord and tenant, property management, strategic matters and general negotiation of property rights.
  • Assisting with consultancy work, including compulsory purchase and general negotiations over property rights.
  • Manage instructions from start to finish.
  • Prepare fee estimates and quotations for approval by associate/director.
  • Help supervise work of more junior team members.
  • Coach and mentor team members, undertake performance reviews.
  • Work as part of a team assisting with the supervision of junior surveyors’ and take an active part in sharing knowledge and experience with the team.
  • Attract additional business from new and existing clients.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of an effective department and business plan developed in-line with the D&R vision.
  • Develop relationships with clients including gaining a good knowledge of the client’s business, economic drivers, market and sector requirements to ensure advice is relevant and commercial.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with other professionals.
  • Identify opportunities to cross sell other disciplines from across the company including valuations, diversifications projects, renewable energy schemes, grant sourcing, business plans, compulsory purchase/utility schemes, landlord and tenant matters, farm and rural estate agency and farmland investment. Where such potential is identified, liaise with team members across departments to deliver client work.
  • Engage in business development activities and be active in the promotion of the company and seek opportunities for new work.
  • Participate in the growth and development of the department/company.
  • Adhere to and support administrative procedures including following time recording and billing process, management of client files and participation in debt collection procedures.
  • Treat all information about the company and its clients and business as confidential.
  • Maintain high standards of professional conduct.
  • Keep track of CPD hours.
  • Attend internal and external training as and when required.
  • Comply with requirements set out by RICS, GDPR and all company policies and procedures including those set out in the QMS manual.

Qualifications, skills and experience

  • MRICS qualified.
  • CAAV qualification (or working towards CAAV qualification).
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft office including word, PowerPoint and excel.
  • First rate technical skills needed to support the client work of the department.
  • Commercial with demonstrable business development experience.
  • Knowledgeable about the market in which you operate, develop a reputation outside of D&R.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to adapt style as required.
  • Displays initiative and is proactive.
  • Strong service orientation – a ‘client first’ culture.
  • A self-starter, able to demonstrate high levels of initiative and motivation.
