Following in the footsteps of generations at Davidson & Robertson (D&R), Orkney born Kirsten Tait has become the latest member of the team to qualify as a Chartered Surveyor. It comes in a year where D&R helps celebrate the 150th anniversary of the RICS (the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors).
Davidson & Robertson’s strong links with the RICS dates back to the very roots of the company which began in 1891 when pioneering Land Valuator James Davidson set up the first Land Agency firm in Scotland.
In 1923, Mr Davidson became the first Scottish President of the Surveyors Institution (now the RICS). His partner, Mr Wilson Robertson, was also heavily involved in the RICS holding the position of President of the Scottish Branch from 1934 – 1937.
The long standing tradition of nurturing staff has always been core to the D&R ethos. Kirsten Tait is the newest in a long line of Chartered Surveyors who have qualified at D&R.
Originally from Orkney, Kirsten graduated with an Honours Degree in Rural Business Management from SRUC – Scotland’s Rural College, in 2014. Following a period of travel, Kirsten gained experience working at the Department of Agriculture in Orkney before joining Davidson & Robertson in September 2016 as a Graduate Surveyor.
Based in the D&R Edinburgh office, Kirsten enjoys Planning and Development work as well as getting involved in farm Valuations and Sales. She is also working on a utilities project that will power Orkney, often travelling home to represent fellow islanders.

“Many in the industry still remember Ronnie Mackenzie who joined D&R as an apprentice in 1943 and became a Partner in 1954. This path to success has been repeated many times since – half the D&R Directors have been home grown. We believe it demonstrates commitment to our staff and opportunity for them to grow.
“We’ve always had strong links with the RICS. In the 1950’s Ronnie was a RICS Trainer – today we continue offer support to the RICS right across Scotland – it benefits the industry and our team too.”
